Tree talk

Here I stand
Spreading my arms to the sky
Reaching down into the earth
Drinking in the moisture
Soaking up the sun
Swaying in the wind.

Friends gather with cans of drink
Resting under my protection
Questing for an hour’s peace.
Then the clouds gather
The temperature drops
And I am alone once more.

But not for long
A squirrel joins me
Seeking shelter and company
And we stay awhile
Enjoying the day.
As night falls, though
He departs too
Leaving me solitary again.

Until my nightlife friends arrive
And the Park fills with the rustle of wings
Closing for another day.
