Coastal Eclipse

Salty smell
Wet rock
Crystal seam
Life forms frozen in time
Sand set solid over millennia
Meets trickling, fluid grains
Grasses wave in the wind
As tiny flowers cling and nod
Dogs bark, gulls cry, crabs scurry.

Without warning, a shadow falls
And grows
And grows
And grows
And grows
The sun’s warmth disappears
Silence echoes in the dark
All is still.

Then slowly, slowly
Slowly, slowly
Light comes again
The world wakes up
And the tide splashes in.
